G1 - STOL

Background    Francais    English    Español    Italiano    Deutsch

After a training by several UL and plane builders, air-minded Charles Guerin established in 1994 his own handicraft business and started designing a robust and spacious high-end STOL which would be compatible to the UL class.

His company Espace Liberté produced the first G1 in 2002.
This easy-to-handle UL is able to take off in less than 30 meters and meets the requirements of the most demanding aviators. In the beginning of 2006 about 20 G1 were flying, most of them in France, but Espace Liberté was forced to discontinue production.

In April 2006 Serge Présent (a former metal industry manager, also air-minded, a pilot of planes, gliders and ULs, owner of one G1) started the SAS G1 Aviation and took on the assets of Espace Liberté, mainly in order to transform the small-scale workshop into a modern high-productivity industry.

He transformed thoroughly tools and processes by introducing a CNC machining centre, filtered air paint spraying booths, and a renewed tool outfit. He also hired several more technicians in order to be able to produce up to four G1 every month ... which objective has been achieved in the meantime.

In december 2007 Yvan Lhermitte, formerly a member of the French Air Force in charge of maintenance of the Alfa Jet, joined the team as head of the workshop to become in 2008 the Chief Engineer for the whole of G1 Aviation.

G1 Aviation has released several prototypes: a beautiful Amphibian, an UL Agricultural and a Super-STOL G1, able to take off in less than 10 meters or 11 yards. This Super-STOL is currently under approval by Paul Prudent, supervisor of the testing centre on the Aérodrome de Gap Tallard. This version is not yet available.

Some novelties are in preparation to be presented during 2009: steel replaced with titanium for cabin and stays, retractable slats and a Drone based on the standard G1.

G1 Aviation attends all major aeronautical meetings like Blois, Friedrichshafen, Le Bourget, Marrakech, Prague
